A facelift (rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgery intended to remove sagging skin and major wrinkles, thereby providing a more youthful appearance. This is an outpatient procedure that can last up to five hours depending on whether any other work is being performed at the same time. Connective tissue is tightened, sagging skin is removed, and some fatty deposits may be removed. Small sutures are used to close any incisions.
Most patients feel little to no pain during recovery. It is normal to have some bruising and swelling. This will resolve within a few weeks, and then you can return to normal daily activities. A patient can look 10 years younger following surgery as the effects of aging, sun exposure, and genetics are reversed.
