Liposuction of Neck / Face
As we age, certain areas of the body can accumulate fat that is hard to lose, in spite of a healthy diet and vigorous exercise. The neck is one such area. Fatty deposits in the neck can detract from the appearance of the entire body, making a younger person seem older, or a fit person seem out of shape. Liposuction can give this area a new streamlined contour, enhancing the effect of facial features and improving the profile. Liposuction in this area produces consistently good results, and has a particularly high satisfaction rate.
Your Liposuction Consultation
During the consultation, Dr. Meneshian will discuss the changes that you would like to make in your appearance. He will explain the different options available to you, the procedure itself, its risks and limitations.
Your surgeon will begin with a physical examination to evaluate your overall weight, skin and muscle tone, and distribution of fat deposits. Dr. Meneshian will also record a complete medical history, including any medications that you are currently taking.
“I hate my double chin. And heaven forbid I tilt my head forward – there are sometimes three!”
A common concern of our patients regarding liposuction of the neck and face… “I’m really not that old. I take good care of myself and stay in shape through regular exercise. I don’t understand why my body stores so much fat in my face and neck. No amount of time at the gym seems to fix it.”
Fortunately, neck and face liposuction can help. Dr. Alex can perform the procedure in under an hour while the patient is under sedation. A tiny incision is used to go in and suck out the excess fat. Stitches may dissolve on their own or can be removed in 7 to 10 days. A custom-fit compression band reduces inflammation and helps the neck maintain shape during the recovery process. The procedure produces very consistent results and has a very high satisfaction rate among patients.
Your Liposuction Procedure
The procedure usually takes less than one hour and is performed under sedation in the office.
During the procedure, Dr. Meneshian will make a tiny incision in the skin, typically in the crease just under the chin or behind the ear lobes. He will then insert a thin tube called a cannula into the fatty area. The cannula is used to break up the fat deposits and sculpt the area to the desired proportions. The unwanted fat is removed with suction, leaving the skin, muscles, nerves, and blood vessels intact.
Your neck may be stiff and sore for a few days, and you may experience some pain, burning, swelling, bleeding or temporary numbness. If necessary, your doctor can prescribe medication to relieve this initial discomfort.
Your doctor will prescribe an antibiotic ointment to prevent infection at the incision sites. Your stitches will be removed in a week to 10 days, unless they dissolve on their own. You will be fitted with a compression band to cut down on swelling and to hold your neck in its new shape until the tissues have adjusted.
