Chemical Peels

A chemical peel utilizes exfoliating solutions like phenol, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), and trichloroacetic acid (TCA) to strip away aged and damaged layers of skin – revealing the youthful-looking and softer skin beneath.

Before the chemical peel, the skin will be prepped. It is scrubbed with a mild toner to remove oils. Then the acidic solution is applied. The amount of time the solution is left on the skin depends on the chosen procedure, which can range from superficial to deep. After the chemicals are wiped away, an antibacterial cream is applied to promote healing and provide relief from discomfort. The skin may feel sunburned or tight for a time following the peel. You will need to avoid sun exposure at first as well as avoiding extreme facial expressions to keep from tearing the thinner skin left by the treatment.

A superficial chemical peel will provide a slight reduction in the signs of aging and skin damage. A medium peel will help reduce fine wrinkles and signs of sun damage. A deep peel will visibly tighten the skin and eliminate wrinkles. See some before and after examples below from real NY Face Place patients.
