An injectable filler is a gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to lips and smooth out wrinkles and folds. Most fillers consist of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body. Once in the skin, fillers work by creating volume. These fillers are non-animal based therefore do not require allergy testing like the old collagen fillers.

The most common areas for using injectable fillers are the marionette lines (from the corner of your mouth to your chin), the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips, although other sites can also be treated.

A common concern of our patients regarding injectable fillers… “Every time I look in the mirror, all I see are these sunken cheeks. I wash there was a way to clear up the folds around my mouth and fill my lips back out totheir youthful volume. I’ve smoked a lot over the years and its written all over my face.”

Your Injectable Filler Procedure

Treatment with an injectable filler is a very quick and easy process. A treatment generally takes 15 minutes, depending on the correction you wish to have performed. Most people find the injections relatively painless. A topical and/or local anesthetic can be applied to some areas prior to your procedure. The results can be seen immediately. The length of time the effect of your filler treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the type of filler used, structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, and the injection technique.

Recovery

Immediately after your filler treatment, you can expect slight bruising, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days.

Dr. Meneshian will instruct you to massage or rub the treated area during the first 48 hours after your filler treatment. If you feel irritated, keep the site cool with an ice pack. Avoid taking any aspirin-based products for 1 week prior to the procedure.
