Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery can provide you with a more youthful appearance.

eye-1132531_640Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure to remove the fat and extra skin from your upper and lower eyelids. The eyelids are often the telling sign of a person’s age, and our treatments can help sagging eyelids and provide eyelid lifts. The doctor at NY FACE PLACE uses state-of-the-art technology and lasers to correct your droopy upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes. As we age, we begin to develop droopy or “puffy” eyelids. This process starts in the 30’s and 40’s and progresses with the aging process. These changes usually occur because over the years, the eyelid skin thins, loses tone, and becomes more susceptible to gravity. The fat pockets gradually herniate forward which can cause bags in both the upper and lower eyelid. When Dr. Meneshian performs eyelid surgery, his patients look well rested, alert, and more youthful.

A blepharoplasty is best to:

  • Tighten droopy or hooded eyelids
  • Restore contour to the lids
  • Eliminate unwanted fatty bags under your eyes
  • Correct asymmetries between the eyelids

What to Expect with Your Eyelid Surgery Consultation

eyelid_lg_01Dr. Meneshian takes time to evaluate each patient to decide what can be done to improve the look of their eyes. Together, you and your board-certified surgeon will decide whether you will have your upper and lower lids corrected or just the upper lids or lower lids. Dr. Meneshian will review your specific needs and desires to restore a youthful appearance to your face and eyelids. Eyelid surgery must be specifically tailored to each individual depending upon their anatomy and the condition of their eyelids. Sometimes patients only need to have skin removed, and others need both skin and fat removed. Eyelid surgery will not significantly improve “crows feet” or fine lines and wrinkles, but can often be combined with a chemical peel to take care of these other problems.

Your Eyelid Surgery

This procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia and light sedation. An eyelid lift can help rejuvenate your entire face by removing excess fat and skin from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid lifts can be performed with no visible external incisions. The upper eyelid incision is made in the crease of the upper lids, which usually fades away in a rapid fashion. The results will be long lasting and you will continue to have follow-up visits with Dr. Meneshian to ensure optimum long-term results.

“Look how saggy my eyelids are. I wonder if people think I’m walking around half-asleep?”

A common concern of our patients considering eyelid surgery……”Every morning when I look in the mirror, the first thing I see is the puffiness under my eyes. Between that and my drooping eyelids, it feels like I can’t even open my eyes all the way. I remember when people used to remark how beautiful my eyes are. Now, you can hardly see them! I wish there was a way to get my young-looking eyes back.”

Thanks to NY Face Place and Dr. Alex, there is! If you’re concerned about drooping or puffy eyelids, you’re not alone. An eyelid lift has helped many to regain self-confidence, and is performed with light sedation and local anesthesia. And the best part is: there are no visible external incisions. Within two weeks the stitches are out, any swelling is gone, and you’re ready to show off your beautiful eyes again.

Recovery from Eyelid Surgery

eyelid_lg_05The area surrounding the eyes will remain swollen in the days following the surgery. It should begin to subside after the second day. Some vision blurring is normal.

The stitches will be removed in 5-7 days. Swelling and bruising will persist for about 7-10 days, but you can begin wearing makeup to help conceal these concerns. You may expect to resume normal activity within 10 days, and start enjoying your new look within approximately 10-14 days. Patients will usually need 1 week off from work.
