Q: I’ve heard that using face moisturize daily is beneficial, but I have oily skin. I’m afraid that using moisturizer will only make the problem worse. What do you recommend?
Regina: This is a common misconception, that face moisturizer will produce more oil for those who struggle with oily skin. In short, I recommend using a moisturizer daily, no matter what your skin type. Face moisturizer can actually help control the amount of oil your skin produces and lead to an overall reduction of facial oil. When your skin is dry, it produces an excess amount of oil to ensure the skin stays hydrated. This can lead to and in some cases be the cause for oily skin. Using a daily moisturizer will not only ensure your face stays hydrated, but can also balance out the amount of natural oil your skin produces. Using a daily moisturizer regularly will “teach” the skin that it can expect the moisture it needs, so overtime it will stop producing as much oil.
If you struggle with oily skin, you’ll want to find a moisturizer made specifically for oily to normal skin types. Stay away from using products for dry skin types. If you struggle with acne I recommend using a acne control moisturizer. If you have more questions about your skin, products, or would like to discuss your goals, we love to chat.
