This is a common question that we hear from clients at NY Face Place on Long Island. This is because wearing heavy earrings for many years can stretch out the earlobes and finally result in the lobes themselves becoming torn. Is there anything that Dr. Alex can do for both stretched and torn earlobes? Happily, the answer is yes! And you don’t even have to give up wearing earrings. Read on to learn more about this exciting procedure!

Safe and Effective Earlobe Repair on Long Island

NY Face Place uses a specialized tool called the Ellman radiofrequency knife to perform earlobe repair surgery. It’s a state-of-the-art piece of equipment that is used to create a clean edge along the split part of the ear with no bleeding. Sutures are then used to complete the repair and allow the earlobe to heal back to its natural looking state.

Fast and Easy Recovery

If you have any concerns about earlobe surgery, rest assured that this is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed in the office with local anesthesia. Our high-tech equipment all but eliminates the bleeding that was common back when surgeons used to use a scalpel to repair the earlobe. The radiofrequency knife makes the procedure safe and effective and speeds up recovery time.

In fact, it only takes about 7 to 10 days for the ear to heal enough for the sutures to be removed. You will be in the chair for about 20 to 30 minutes for the entire procedure. Antibiotic ointment is often the only dressing that is required. Some patients experience a little drainage, but this is normal. We even use a topical cream to numb the area before injecting the local anesthesia, so the process is virtually pain-free.

So when do you get to start wearing your earrings again? We wait 6 weeks to ensure everything is completely healed and then our in-house esthetician can provide you with a new piercing. Your back to wearing earrings with your earlobe looking good as new.
