Summer means sunshine, pool days, and outdoor fun — but it can also mean clogged pores, breakouts, and excess shine. Heat, humidity, sweat, sunscreen, and increased oil production can all contribute to congested skin. What’s the good news, you ask? With effective habits and products, you can keep your pores clear and your skin glowing all summer long.

Here are some skin tips and my favorite NY Face Place products to help!!

Cleanse Properly… But Gently

Sweat and sunscreen are essential summer companions, but they can build up fast and clog your pores. Wash your face twice a day with a gentle, sulfate-free cleanser that removes dirt and oil without stripping your skin. The NY Face Place Gentle Cleanseris the best cleanser; gentle, effective and perfect for every skin type. If you’ve been sweating a lot, cleanse again after heavy activity, but avoid harsh scrubbing — over-washing can actually trigger more oil production.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliation is key to preventing dead skin from building up and trapping oil in your pores. In summer, opt for a chemical exfoliant, 1–3 times a week instead of aggressive physical scrubs, which can irritate sun-exposed skin. Lactic Acid is particularly effective because it penetrates into the pores to dissolve oil and debris. I personally use the NY Face Place Lactic Acid most evenings to stay on top of exfoliating and enjoy all its added benefits.

Don’t Skip Moisturizer

Even in hot, humid weather, your skin still needs hydration. When your skin is dehydrated, it may actually produce more oil to compensate — which leads to clogged pores. Use a lightweight, oil-free, or gel-based moisturizer to keep your skin balanced without feeling greasy. The NY Face Place Lipid Replenishing Soft Cream is lightweight, packed with antioxidants, and helps strengthen the skin’s barrier.

Choose Sunscreen Wisely

Sunscreen is non-negotiable, but some formulas can feel heavy and actually clog pores. Look for sunscreens labeled “non-comedogenic,” which are designed not to block pores. Mineral (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) sunscreens tend to be more breathable and gentler on breakout-prone skin. NY Face Place just released a Clear Mineral Antioxidant SPF 50+ Sunscreen in June. This moisturizing formula brightens, protects and nourishes the skin. It is definitely my new fave!

Blot, Don’t Pile on Powder

It’s tempting to keep adding layers of powder to control shine, but this can suffocate your pores and lead to congestion. Instead, carry oil-blotting sheets or a translucent setting powder to gently absorb excess oil without creating buildup.

Keep Your Hands & Accessories Clean

Your phone, sunglasses, and hands all touch your face throughout the day, transferring oil, dirt, and bacteria. Wipe down your accessories regularly and avoid touching your face as much as possible to minimize clogged pores.

Get Professional Treatments

If your skin still feels congested, book a facial with extractions or a light chemical peel to deep-clean your pores safely. Regular professional care during the summer can keep your skin clear and refreshed.

My Final Thoughts…

With a little extra care and consistency, you can enjoy everything summer has to offer without worrying too much about clogged pores. Focus on keeping your skin clean, hydrated, and protected — and don’t forget to drink plenty of water and eat fresh, skin-friendly foods to glow from the inside out!
